Diagram question

Hello @Nikki37, The first sentence is a statement that sets up our scenario. It gives us some background knowledge that we need to understand the rest of the passage. I wouldn't diagram it, because it didn't contain an if/then statement or a cause and effect. These are the sentence types that we want to diagram. I would argue that there are word triggers in this passage, but the presence of "normally" does make this question unique. In the second sentence, I believe "when" to be a word trigger. As in, "when this happens, that happens." This is an indicator that I will probably want to make a diagram. "Any" is also a word to look out for. When a ship sinks as rapidly (SR) as the Rienzi, it normally will not be fully flooded (FF). SR - - - - - - > normally not FF (unless by sabotage) Any ship that sinks when not fully flooded will implode (I). not FF - - - - - - > I The Rienzi did not implode. not I - - - - - - > FF It did not implode, therefore the Rienzi was fully flooded. Unless it was sabotaged, then it flooded faster than normal. This is reflected by answer choice C. Did I understand your question correctly?
