It seems like the first sentence is a principle which is then used to come to the conclusion in the last sentence. Also doesn't the first sentence offer support for the last sentence, making it a subsidiary conclusion?

    Hi, the final sentence actually supports the first one, rather than the other way around. The fact that suppressing information runs counter to the mission of universities supports the idea that they should therefore not patent their inventions.
