What does the phrase a pivot to an opinion of an opposing point mean? I'm not sure I understand the sentence perhaps bc I'm not a native speaker..

Hi @Dalaal, I understand how that phrase could be confusing. Here, the key takeaway is just noting that the author starts by stating one idea (that Shakespeare is for everyone) and then moves or "pivots" to another idea (that 18th C books show that Shakespeare was for the rich). That "pivot" shows the main point of the argument which is that the first idea is wrong.
