Hello, I need some further explanation as to why E is wrong and D is right. For D, the only place i see that mentions anything about how people influence suburban sprawl is "Opponents of New Urbanism claim that migration . to sprawling suburbs is an expression of people's . legitimate desire to secure the enjoyment and . personal mobility provided by the automobile and the (50) lifestyle that it makes possible". However I attributed this to the opponents of the New Urbanists, which i took to mean that it is not necessarily known if the New Urbanists would agree to their opponents assessment of the influence of people's preferences on suburban sprawl. Whereas answer E seems to be supported by the very last sentences of the passage.

    Looks like there are several questions as to why D is the stronger answer than E—it would be great if we could get an explanation! I also felt there was no textual support the "is influenced by those who live in them" NOR for the "personal values should not affect the ways - at least to that strength.

    I would look to line 50 where the new urbanites do not say that we should bat personal values from consideration of urban design, but rather we should make sure to think critically about those values. This directly conflicts with E. Line 35 is a good example of the bidirectional influence in D. It tells us that the neighborhood can shape people by causing them to act in n antisocial way that pedestrians rarely do. The final paragraph gives examples of how people shape their neighborhoods.
