Is it not generally bad practice to falsify/challenge premise directly in weakening an argument on the LSAT?

For weaken and strengthen question, directly attacking a premise is not common but it is fair game. I wouldn't do this for other questions, but if an answer choice shows a premise to be untrue or irrelevant, then that does indeed weaken it.
