Also, I should have added this to the discussion. Is answer choice "C" incorrect because the language is too strong. They say the word "any" which to me denotes too strong of language. I think the answer choice would be a lot more attractive if it said, "Physicians should not make recommendations regarding the consumption of food or drink unless there is conclusive evidence supporting those recommendations. Why is Answer Choice "C" wrong? And for that matter why is Answer Choice "B" wrong. I'd think the word "persuasive"? They never mention anything in the stimulus as to being "persuasive". I didn't pick Answer Choice A because excessive consumption was never once mentioned in the stiumulus.

Hi, we are looking to prove the conclusion that the evidence is inconclusive- that is, our right answer should enable us to say that "since the mechanism is unknown, and A/B/C/D/E, the evidence is therefore inconclusive." C is wrong because it only enables us to say that, if the evidence is inconclusive (which is the thing we are trying to prove), then doctors should not recommend it. This does not make the argument correct- instead it goes off on a tangent about recommendations. B is wrong because we do actually have statistical evidence cited for the view the author claims has not been proven- although I have no idea if it is persuasive or not. However, this certainly does not prove that the evidence is not conclusive.
