Difference Between D and E

I went back and forth between D and E and ultimately chose wrong. I justified my answer because I thought that by claiming that there was no written evidence to support the claim, the author was rejecting the claim based on more than just the new recent evidence. Can someone explain why my reasoning is not correct and the key difference between these two answer choices?

    Hi, the big difference between e and d is why the author rejects it. D claims the author rejects the theory simply because it is not worthy of scholarly attention. E claims the author rejects it because it is disproven by new evidence. Which sounds more like the passage to you? Did the author simply dismiss it, or did they provide a reason for dismissing it?

    Thank you for the explanation, that makes much more sense now! I'll keep in mind that, even though the author did not give much credit to the claim, that does not mean that the author was giving it no attention at all. By even giving the explanation that there was no written evidence, he is giving the claim scholarly attention
