Hello,
I am wondering how having music be subordinate to other aspects of opera falls under the proposition that the overall aesthetic of opera depends on the music. Is this saying that the author of Passage A would likely tell the author of Passage B that their "third kind of opera" aesthetic would rely heavily on the quality of the music because it is not the primary aspect of that opera?

Passage B states that the third kind of opera would be where the music is subordinate to other features like the words. But we know that in passage A that the author favors music over words. In the passage it states this about the joining of music and words:
" Poetry is a great art; so is music. But as a
. medium for emotion, each is greater alone than in
. company, although various good ends arise from
(15) linking the two, providing that the words are
. subordinated to the more expressive medium of music."
Opera is only as good as its music ^. That is why the aesthetics are based on the quality of music.
I got this question wrong initially, but this is what I think explains answer choice B. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I hope this helps.
