What's the fundamental distinction between C and D that should make us choose one over another?

Hi, c is saying that the paragraph is intended to give credit to the originator of a theory. D is saying that the paragraph is intended to be the basis of the authors own argument. The key way to distinguish them is to determine fit he paragraph in question is mainly trying to applaud a theorist or to provide support for the authors own argument.
