The stimulus says that it is unlike steel. Steel loses volume which I took as thinning. How would that be the case with glass if it's unlike steel?

Hi, the glass is not losing volume, the volume is changing its distribution. It becomes thinner in some areas and thicker in others. However the total volume of the glass is unchanged. Steel would actually slightly decrease in total volume.
