Answer choice C- first title

I didn’t end up choosing answer choice C because of the title they gave to the first passage. It seems to me that passage A is more of a general explanation of how patents work in our current legal system rather than about “patenting the obvious.” Can someone explain why this is a good title for Passage A compared to other compelling passage A titles in the different answer choices? Thanks in advance.

Hi Shafieiava, thanks for the question! The reason that answer choice C's title for the first passage is apt is because the first passage discusses the different issues that have arisen as a result of people and companies being allowed to patent the obvious. Answer choice A might be tempting as far as its title for passage A, however the second title (passage B's) is not correct. Answer choice B does not correctly characterize passage B. Answer choice D does not correctly characterize passage A because passage A was not concerned about describing a misunderstanding of the patent system. Lastly, answer choice E takes the detergent component of passage A and makes it seem like that was the whole point. In fact the deterrent idea came from the fact that companies are allowed to patent the obvious. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
