Why B over D?

B seemed to narrow to me so I chose answer D... can someone help explain why D is wrong but B is right? Thanks!

    ^ I am also wondering this... Lane's work is not referenced in the first 2 paragraphs so I chose D as well. Would love some insight on this! Thanks!

    Hi, I see the point about Lanes not being mentioned until later in the passage. I think we could say that the first two paragraphs are mostly setting context, but this is still a valid point. However, we could quibble with D much stronger. D is describing something that is secondary to the passage at best.
