Why are we allowed to ignore the fact that J and H come after Glassen as established by the base chain. Wouldn't that eliminate 7th and 6th as an answer

    There are nine total possible spots, so the fact that there are two things after G means that g can't go in 8 or 9, not 6 or 7.
