I was confused because with answer choices C and D whenever one person was before another i moved that person from his present position in the long chain to his 'new' position for example with the correct answer choice i drew K>N>I etc >L But you did K>L>N>I...etc. Could you please explain why my set up is wrong?

Rule #1 tells us that L's salary is less than K's and rule # 2 tells us that L's salary is greater than N's. Therefore, if N's salary is grater than I's, what we have been told in rule #1 and #2 pertaining to L's position hasn't changed. That is why we must have K > L > N > I > F > M > G > J > H.
