We’re told that the traditionalist Cherokee didn’t reject elitist reforms outright, as they wanted to use the skills missionaries could provide them and it would be useful to have white allies. Thus, we can infer (E), which tells us that the reforms were meant to preserve the Cherokee Nation and protect it against exploitation (such as Cherokee children learning English so white people can’t cheat them).
