Thanks for the question! This question is asking us what we can infer about the attitudes of traditionalist Cherokee towards the 1820s reforms. Take a look at lines 35-44. We’re told that the traditionalist Cherokee didn’t reject elitist reforms outright, as they wanted to use the skills missionaries could provide them and it would be useful to have white allies. Thus, we can infer (E), which tells us that the reforms were meant to preserve the Cherokee Nation and protect it against exploitation (such as Cherokee children learning English so white people can’t cheat them).
