I would also like to know why answer A is incorrect. I understand why B is correct, it appears to be supported by 44-48, and even the example about Anthony indicating the labor shift had a subtle implication. However, I am uncertain as to why 40-44 is not consistent with answer A.

Hey @connordelacruz, great question. The reason A is incorrect is due to a slight shift in terms. This question is sneaky. The passage says that customary law was only gradually embodied in statutory law, and these laws affected African Americans. Critically, note that just because it affects black citizens, doesn't mean it doesn't affect white citizens. Answer choice A skews this - it says laws affecting black citizens took LONGER than laws affecting white citizens to get codified. Problem is, we have no idea what the timeline is for "white" laws. Ex: wow, it took 30 years for African Americans to gain the right to buy cattle. Okay...how long did it take for those laws to come into effect for white people? 40 years? 100? zero? We have no idea. All we know is it took long, but we have no basis for relation. (A) becomes incorrect as soon as they start comparing to white individuals.
