Hi LSAT Max, I don't seem to grasp what the end of paragraph three is trying to say. Could you explain it, how it would help us arrive at the correct answer, and explain the flaw in (D)? Many thanks in advance!

@Julie-V, Let's take a look. In looking at the third paragraph, we see that Haffer's theory was that ice ages would result in different environments in the Amazon, which could explain different pockets of species. The whole point of mentioning numerous ice ages is to show that they may explain the numerous pockets of different species in the Amazon. This is what leads us to (E) as the correct answer choice. In looking at (D), the problem with it is that there was no comparison between ice ages and other kinds of climate changes, so we can eliminate this answer choice. Does this make sense? Let us know if you have any other questions!
