In other words, classical social movement theory applies to movements which are caused or preceded by an unusual condition

Thank you! However, I don't see how this can lead us to infer that the classical theory of social movement would not be appropriately applied to an annual general election. Can you please elaborate?

Hi BennyB33, As Michelle noted, the "classical theories" are only applicable when there is some sort of unusual system strain. We know this from like 16, where we are told that these theories are only relevant when some unusual condition (system strain) is applied to the system. An annual general election is far from unusual- the term "annual" tells us that it occurs every year. So, far from being an unusual condition, this is an extremely usual and predictable condition- it happens every year.
