How can this answer choice be eliminated? This might not sound too smart but I looked up British vs. English and it says they are virtually the same thing. This is not something I was aware is "common knowledge." I chose b because it references the English parliament, not the British. Can someone please clarify this?

Unfortunately, I think the ability to eliminate answer B does come down to common knowledge. While the passage uses the term "English," that can nearly always be interchanged with the term "British." That being said, the use of the term British in the answer choice is done to throw you off and make you question whether it means something different. When you get an answer choice like this where you think it may be correct but are not sure you can become sure by eliminating all the the other choices. Here, when you reached (D) you should have noticed that that statement was not supported by the passage and therefore you would have found a clear right answer.
