(B) and (D)

Hi LSAT Max, I think I got this question wrong because I didn't know what "preempt" meant, so I eliminated (E) and was left with (B) and (D). Now that I know why (E) was correct, I'd love to get some clarity as to why the ones I couldn't eliminate are wrong. I thought choice (B) could have been a potential choice because it mentions that the Steadicam was "an uncomplicated device". After looking again at choice (D), it doesn't seem like the best option, but while I was doing the question my logic was that the idea of "transform definitions of a traditional art form" was supported by lines 7-10 ("such new technologies create new ways of seeing and hearing by adding different dimensions to older forms, rather than replacing") Any clarifications would be greatly appreciated, many thanks in advance!

    @Julie-V, Happy to help. Let's look at (B) and (D). (B) says, "new technologies do not need to be very complex in order to benefit art" The author's whole point of using the Steadicam example is to show that technology has the ability to enhance artistic expression, not that technology doesn't have to be complex in order to positively affect art. This is why we can get rid of (B). (D) says, "the replacement of a traditional technology with a new technology will transform definitions of a traditional art form" The problem with (D) is that the author never states that new technology replaces traditional technology, so we can get rid of this answer choice. Does this make sense? Let us know if you have any other questions!

    Still don't get how B is wrong. B is straight from the passage "an uncomplicated device"

    Hi Tyler808, The author does tell us that the device is uncomplicated. However, we are being asked what point the author was trying to make by referencing the device. The device is an example of an idea that the author references earlier- that new tech can add to art rather than replace it.
