(C) vs. (D)

Hi LSAT Max,
Originally, I thought answer choices (C) and (D) were really similar in what they were trying to depict.
Is (D) the better answer choice because it undermines what is being said in lines 27-28 ("some even worry that technology will eliminate live performances altogether")? Does it give an alternate effect by showing that the recordings would bring in more people for a live audience, whereas (C) is saying that the live audience would help with recording sales, ultimately not weakening the opponents' views?

Let's take a look at (C) and (D).
(C) says, "After a live performance, sales of recordings for home
viewing of the particular performing artist generally increase."
(C) would actually strengthen Proponent 2's contention, as it could be
interpreted to suggest that there may be a preference for recordings,
which could eventually lead to the elimination of live performances.
It could also be argued that (C) neither strengthens nor weakens the
opponents' views, but either way, it certainly does not weaken it.
(D) says, "The distribution of recordings of artists’ performances has
begun to attract many new audience members to their live
performances."
(D) weakens Proponen 2's contentions directly. (D) suggests that
recordings will increase the public's interest in live performances
instead of recordings leading to diminished interest in live
performances. Your line reference for why (D) is correct (lines 27-28)
is correct. That's the part of the passage that tells us (D) would
weaken the opponents' views.
