Can someone explain why answer choice D is not the correct answer? Line 38-43 seems to provide the evidence of this answer choice.

    I second this question, I also referred to the lines mentioned by Haoqing, and felt that D was a good option.

    The reason D does not work here is because the critics are not assuming that the works provide no relevant basis for analysis; rather, they simply believe Webster's work wasn't good. Thus, we can get rid of it.
