Could someone explain to me why answer choice D is correct in this situation? Thanks!

@mwilson1615,
Happy to help. Let's take a look at (D).
(D) says, "Few of them relied on intermediaries to manage their estates."
Support for (D) is found at the very end of the second paragraph in
lines 37-39, where it says, "while most southern planters lived on
their land and interacted with slaves on a regular basis." From this,
we can infer that these southern planters didn't generally rely on
intermediaries to manage their estates, so (D) is the correct answer
choice.

@Ravi, hey!! I understand why D would be the right answer, but B is also supported by the passage and according to the passage, it is also true that "only 2 percent of slaves worked on plantations where more than a hundred slaves worked" line 26-27. Is B wrong because of the quantifier few?

I also had the same question about B?
Thank you

I think you're right about the quantifer "few" - if 2% worked on plantations with over 100 slaves, then 98% worked on smaller plantations, which would mean that MOST plantation owners had smaller plantations. That directly contradicts (B).
