I see where the passage mentions the time spanning a few thousand years, but how do yiu make the conncection between that and the recent past? Thanks

    Lines 6-9 state that "Geological evidence shows that periodically the field's polarity reverses, and that these reversals have been taking place at an increasing rate." Thus, the changes in polarity are occurring more often in the recent past than in the distant past. Hope that clears things up! Please let us know if you have any other questions.
