If Hannah visits a combined total of four cities in countries X and Y, what is the greatest total number of days she can spend visiting cities in country Y? If you were to add the two days at the end to take up the last two days of the 14 wouldn't that make her go visit another city? so making the total greater than four cities

@Zach314, Great question. We're told that Hannah visits a combined total of 4 cities in countries X and Y, and we're looking for the answer choice with the greatest total number of days she can spend visiting cities in country Y. We know she visits at least 1 city in each country, so country X has at least 1 city. This means that country Y will have 3 cities she visits since we're trying to maximize the number of days she spends in country Y. Each city takes up at least 2 days of time. Country X - >1 city (2 days) Country Y - >3 cities What about country Z? Remember, she visits 6 total cities, and 4 of them are in countries X and Y. This means she visits 2 cities in country Z. She'll be there for 4 days since we're trying to maximize her time in country Y. Country X - >1 city (2 days) Country Y - >3 cities Country Z - >2 cities (4 days) She's traveling for 14 days. 14 - 2 - 4 = 8 days, which is the maximum number of days she can spend in country Y. This is why (C) is the correct answer choice. Does this make sense? Let us know if you have any more questions!

Your explanation is missing the rule that she must spend at least 2 days per city, so wouldn't this mean she's spending a minimum of 8 days visiting the 4 cities in X & Y leaving us with only 6 days to visit 2 cities in Z?
