Hi LSAT Max,
Answer choice (C) was tempting at a first glance. Is it incorrect because there is nothing in the passage to guarantee that the white cedars that grow in forests are on trees?

Let's look at (C).
(C) says, "Trees that are older than a few hundred years start to lose
the protective outer layer of their bark."
(C) makes the suggestion that as trees get older, they have a more
difficult time thriving. However, this does not explain to us why
trees on the faces of cliffs would occasionally outlive trees in the
central forest, so we can get rid of this answer choice.
