    I just have a question about using latent and acute. You are able to use those even though they weren't mentioned?

    @Jvjk, Great question. In the answer choice, “latent” refers to the actual (but inactive) infection by an agent, whereas “acute” refers to the occurrence of the disease caused by the agent. The question is asking us to resolve the paradox, so all we need is an answer choice that helps us do this. Even though "latent" and "acute" are terms used in the answer choices that are not mentioned in the stimulus, the content of answer choice C (which includes these words) allows us to resolve the paradox. It's fine if answer choices bring in new terms AS LONG AS the answer choice is helping you to accomplish the task you've been directed by the question stem. In our case, we've been tasked with resolving the paradox, and as Naz points out, C is the best answer for helping us to do this. Does this make sense? Let us know what you think!

    @jessicalange, Happy to help. we know people with disease W have lower levels of fat in their blood. However, despite this, the recommended method of preventing disease W is getting rid of fat in the blood. That's definitely a paradox. Even though the people with this disease have lower levels of blood fat, it looks like there is something about blood fat that causes the disease. We should look for some sort of explanation or piece of information that provides us with a connection between levels of fat in the blood and the disease. (C) says, "The progression from latent to acute W can occur only when the agent that causes acute W absorbs large quantities of fat from the patient's blood." (C) helps us to resolve the paradox because it provides us with an explanation for why patients who are at-risk need to keep their blood fat low. The fat in the blood causes acute W to happen. This also explains why blood fat levels are lower in people with acute cases of disease W (the agent that causes acute W has already absorbed large quantities of fat from the patient's blood, so they would have less fat in their blood at this point).
