While Senator Armand is a distinguished mathematician and a woman of indisputable brilliance, what does that have to do with land reclamation? Notice Senator Armand is not taking issue with the figures (i.e. 19 percent increase) but rather whether the reclamation program could have been successful. (E) exhibits the same exact flaw. Lomas, a bicycle engineering expert who did not observe the race, insists that Lee could not have won a race in which Adams completed. Being a bicycle engineering expert does not qualify him to speak about who won a race. Compare that with (C). Dr. Treviso is a cardiopulmonary specialist, who is clearly qualified to speak on how long humans can hold their breath under water. Hope that helps!
