In abstract terms, answer A states that the author's argument contain premises (new analysis' findings) that undermine it's conclusion, correct?

Well, sure in the most abstract terms this is true - but, that is also true for every correct Errors in Reasoning question.
What's happening is that one piece of evidence is being used in two contradictory ways.
