What is the difference between an analogy and an example?

    @Ashley-Tien An analogy is a comparison between two similar things, where an example is a specific thing that is characteristic of the rule/king/thing/type.

    Can you please explain how it is at all an analogy? It simply stated that contemporary statutes might not be reliable. It never posed any concrete example so how are we supposed to know it's an analogy?

    Hi SMA, The analogy is the comparison between modern laws and the laws of ancient kingdoms. The critic is making an argument about how things were in the past by citing an analogous example from the present to further his argument.

    I still dont understand how this is an analogy. i crossed out this answer because i thought that no analogy was present. can you explain further? and how do we decipher analogies for these questions instead of examples. should we just always imply they are analogies?

    Hi, an analogy is any time we use an example to make a point about a a similar but not identical situation, we are making an analogy.
