I diagrammed this question differently as well using the and/or. " Everyone who is a gourmet cook enjoys a wide variety of foods AND spices. GC>F&S. I thought it would of been diagrammed like that and the contrapositive would of been changed to OR as well. She diagrammed it as GC>WVFS. Is there a reason why?

I would also like to know, any suggestions would greatly help.

Hi @KimJongUn and @SROTD702, thanks for your posts. Think about it this way. There is only one necessary condition given here ("a wide variety"). That's why it is not right to diagram it as a separate AND/OR necessary condition. Compare, for example, to a sentence like this: If Emily is on time, she unlocks the office and turns on the air conditioning (OT ==> UO and TOAC; contrapositive: not UO or not TOAC ==> not OT). Does that help?

Hello, I am piggybacking on the question regarding when to write out a compound statements. So if a key word indicator such as "and/or" are provided in the passage, it is not necessary to diagram as a compound statement as long as there is one necessary condition? What is the difference between the example you have provided above and the passage first statement? "Everyone who is a gourmet cook enjoys a wide variety of foods and spices." Although I did not diagram this statement as GC -> VF & S, I am concerned that I could make that mistake in the future and I would like to make sure I have a clear understanding of why it should be just VFS. There are similar passage that I have been confused about this usage as well, for example number 4. "Efficiency AND redundancy are contradictory characteristics of linguistic system...". Please help me clarify as I can see myself not quite grasping when to know when to or when not to diagram even if we are not using the logic above of looking for one necessary condition. Thank you.
