The first word of the passage is "when". which commonly introduces a sufficient condition. Also, "must" commonly introduces a necessary condition. Therefore, can the first sentence be diagrammed as NSCKW => SWKCAW, where NSCKW = "novel set in a city I know well", and SWKCAW = "see that writer knows city at least as well as I"
